So... I survived my first week (woo!). It's been kind of overwhelming at times but I think I'm getting the hang of it all soon...maybe. But anyway here's a little update from last week...
Friday 13/07/2018
The flight from Sydney Domestic Airport to Gold Coast departed at 14.15. Some of the STS students flew to the Sunshine Coast but there were quite a few of us flying to Gold Coast as well. The one-hour-flight went quickly and we arrived at Coolangatta airport at 15.30. The school had organised a pick-up from the airport to the homestays so me and two other girls (who are going to the same school) from STS were greeted by a lovely bus driver at the airport. Also my luggage didn't get lost on the way so I'm v happy about that. I successfully arrived at my host family later that evening (though the traffic was terrible and I arrived a little bit later that expected).
After a little chit chat with my host parents we went out to eat some Chinese to a nearby restaurant. Later I unpacked my stuff, we watched some tennis and went to bed.
Saturday 14/07/2018 & Sunday 15/07/2018
The weekend was pretty chilled. On Saturday we sorted my phone out and ran some other errands. Also that afternoon my host-sister Alisa arrived. On Sunday we went to the shopping centre to eat lunch and to do a food shop.
My host-parents are really lovely and my room is also nice. My host-sister Alisa is from Germany and she is really sweet too. Everything is going good and so far I'm just enjoying my time here.
So there, now onto this week...
Monday 16/07/2018
On Monday we went to the school for a uniform fitting, bought the uniform, took a picture for the student ID and headed back home. So nothing that special really happened.
Tuesday 17/07/2018
On Tuesday we had student orientation from 9.00am to 3.00pm. In between all the new information we had breaks, lunch and even had time to play volleyball. We also received our timetables -I had to make some adjustments because I didn't get everything I'd like to have got. After school we decided to go to Burleigh Beach to meet some other international students from the area. We were on the beach for a while and took the bus home.
Wednesday 18/07/2018
First week -first excursion. We did a day trip to Dreamworld with all the internationals (old and new) and it was really fun. Everyone met at 8.45 in classroom B1 and the bus left the school at about 9.15. We went on some rides, saw all the animals like kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, the Tasmanian devil and white tigers. But yeah, it was a fun day together with all the other internationals.

School started at 8.30 and we had to got to the library to get our laptops set up with the school's internet and stuff. When everything was set up properly we had to go to class. I know, terrifying. I had international sport, media arts in practice and aquatic practices. All of the subjects were fun and somewhat different from my subjects in Finland.
After school I went to Pacific Fair with some international students. We just browsed the shops for a while, ate and later met up with some more people on the beach. As it started to get a little chilly on the beach we headed back to the shopping centre to have dinner. It was a pretty fun day and I was quite tired by the time I got home.
Friday 20/07/2018
First actual school day (yay!). My first day of school started at 7.50 with media arts in practice, and afterwards we had phoenix class where I received my new timetable. Then I had chemistry (which I definitely did not sign up for thank you very much) and halfway through the class I had to go to organise my messed-up subjects. After waiting in some office for over two hours I can now say that my timetable is officially sorted. So now the subjects I have are English, mathematics B, Australian studies, international sport, aquatic practices, biology and physics (Dad, you're welcome).
After school we walked home. Later we were supposed to go to the beach but ended up just having dinner out.
Saturday 21/07/2018 & Sunday 22/07/2018
I had no plans for the weekend but somehow ended up doing quite a lot of stuff. My weekend basically consisted of exploring Surfers Paradise and hanging out on the beach -can't complain.

You'll hear from me in my next post and I hope you've also had a nice week!!
